03/30/16 at 23:21There is a slightly rote feeling to a number of the plot points and structural dilemmas being ticked off by Whedon (a pretty foreseeable late shifting of allegiances, an inclination to attempt to hit action sequences at pre-allotted intervals), and with such a surfeit of characters to dedicate display time to, the middle section of the film sometimes feels frayed, offering a series of vignettes.
